VI INTERNATIONAL FOLKLORE FESTIVAL “KEEPING TRADITIONS”

VI МЕЖДУНАРОДНЫЙ ФОЛЬКЛОРНЫЙ ФЕСТИВАЛЬ "СОХРАНЯЕМ ТРАДИЦИИ"

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

International Folklore Festival "Keeping traditions" (hereinafter Festival) is held with the aim to promote folk art, preserve the multi-national cultural heritage of Russia and develop public diplomacy by establishing cultural relations between nations. The festival is a place where folk talents from around the world meet each other to make friends and share their cultural experiences. 

The objectives of the festival:
Identification and promotion of the best folk artists
Improving the professional skills of group leaders and teachers
Development of friendship, mutual understanding and cultural cooperation between art groups
Education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and the formation of mutual respect for the cultural traditions and customs of other ethnic groups

·         Education of the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and the formation of mutual respect for the cultural traditions and customs of other ethnic groups

TERMS OF THE CONTEST   

The festival has a competitive nature and enables participants to present their achievements in the field of music, singing, dancing, rituals and customs.

We invite vocal, dance, instrumental folk groups and theatres as well as soloists and duets to participate in the festival.

Every group may participate in the fair on handicrafts with their crafts products from native region.

The groups can participate both in a contest and in public concerts with a programme not exceeding 8 minutes for competition and 15 minutes for public concert.

All participants of the festival should pay participation fee and travel expenses to and from St. Petersburg.

 

CONTEST NOMINATIONS:

I Choreography (Soloists, duets, small forms (3-7 people), ensembles)   

A - Folk dance (traditional and stylized)

B - Classical dance

C - Variety dance (show groups, step, oriental dances, disco)

II Vocal (soloists and duets)

A - Authentic vocal, folk vocal

В - Modern arrangement of folk songs (in any genre: classical academic singing, pop singing, jazz, etc.)

C - Pop vocal 

III Choirs and vocal ensembles (trios, ensembles (from 4 to 13 participants), choirs (more than 13 participants))

A - Authentic vocal, folk vocal

В - Modern arrangement of folk songs (in any genre: classical academic singing, pop singing, jazz, etc.)

C - Pop vocal 

IV Instrumental work (orchestras, ensembles and soloists)

V Theatrical work (miniatures, excerpts from performances, excerpts from musicals, excerpts from ballets, oral folk art, declamation, puppet theater, musical theater, fashion studio). 

AGE CATEGORIES

I          Junior: age 7-9

II         Middle: age 10-13

III       Older: age 14-17

IV       Youth: age 18-30

V         Adults: age 31 and over 

In each age group, the performers of another age are admitted but not more than 30% of the total number of performers.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

 

The participation in the festival-contest means the participation in one contest category and one age category.
The competition program includes a performance of 1 or 2 various works up to 8 minutes total. At the same time, in the nomination “Theatrical work” one miniature or an excerpt of up to 8 minutes must be performed.
The program may optionally include authentic folklore or modern arrangements of folk arts based on folklore material of any country or region. 
Participants can perform their works a capella, with live music, or have phonograms (-) on a flash drive or on CD.
Phonograms must be recorded on a flash drive in MP3 format. Only competitive entries should be on the flash drive. The file name should contain the following information: surname, name of the participant or the name of the group and the name of the work. Sample 1: Ensemble "Vesnianochka" – Name of a song/”Dance with me”. Sample 2: Sidorov Ivan – “Dance with me”.

PARTICIPATION FEE

Festival Package Standard: 248 EUR per person (4* hotel in the historical center)

  • Accommodation 5 days / 4 nights at “Saint-Petersburg****” hotel on the banks of the Neva
  •  DBL/TWIN standard rooms with own bathroom and other amenities
  • Full board (4 buffet breakfasts, 4 buffet lunches, 4 buffet dinners) in a panoramic restaurant, River view
  • St. Petersburg sightseeing city tour by bus with a guide
  • Transfer to the concert venue by bus
  • Festival souvenirs, diplomas, cups, medals (for soloists)
  • Participation in one category of competition
  • Festival organizational cost
  • One free leader for a group of 22 persons (21+1)

 Notes:

·         Participation fee doesn’t include price of escort by a bus from airport to the hotel and back. The transfer fee will be billed individually after filing an application, depending on the number of a group and time of arrival.

  • Accommodation in SGL rooms is available upon request at an extra fee.
  • Extra nights available upon request at an extra fee.

PAYMENT

·         Approved groups pay in advance a 30% guarantee fee, which is to be deducted at the final payment.

·         In case of refusal to participate in the festival received after February 15, 2020 the guarantee fee is not refund.

·         The Organizing Committee will send the bank details upon receiving the application form. Booking confirmation will be sent, if only the Organizing Committee receive guarantee fee.

TRAVEL & VISA TERMS

  • Every participant should cover the expense of the international flight to and from St. Petersburg.
  • Every participant of the festival must have Travel Insurance to cover medical and accidental coverage during the period of the festival.
  • Each participating group is responsible for its own visa to Russia. Invitations for visa are available upon payment of 30% guarantee fee.
  • The recommended arrival date for participating groups to St. Petersburg is March 19, 2020 by 2:00 PM (afternoon).
  • The recommended departure date is March 23, 2020 by 12:00 (afternoon).
  • Participants may extend their stay in St. Petersburg at an extra fee.

AWARDS 

·   

  • The accumulating of Awarding Foundation is entrusted to the Festival Organizing Committee. Any organization or individual can make charitable contributions to the festival and establish their special awards and prizes.
  • In each category and age group winners are assigned to Laureates of I, II, III degrees, and diploma winners of I, II, III degrees.
  • Laureates (groups and small forms) are awarded a cup and a diploma, laureates (soloists) are awarded a medal and a diploma, and diploma winners are awarded a diploma.
  • The number of laureates and diploma winners is not limited, since the contestants are evaluated according a qualification system.
  • The Grand Prix is awarded to only one of the winners of the 1st Prize among children from 7 to 17 years old and one of the winners of the 1st Prize among adults aged over 18, who will win the highest number of votes of jury members, but not less than 51%.
  • Nominees for the Grand Prix in the amount of not more than 14 participants (both teams and soloists) are selected by the jury. The Grand Prix Draw is held during the gala concert. Nominees perform 1 (one) work lasting no more than 5 minutes.
  • Grand Prix winners are awarded a cup and prizes of the festival partners. By decision of the jury a cash prize is possible.

·         

·         Based on the results of the competition, the following Special Prizes are awarded:

  • Audience Award
  • The best national costume
  • For the preservation of folk traditions
  • For the development of public diplomacy

·         At the discretion of the jury, the best groups and soloists are invited to participate in tours and folklore festivals in Russia and abroad on a free or preferential basis.

·         Laureates of the festival may be granted by Certificate of the European Association of Folklore Festivals of 200-500 euros, which is used to participate in the European or World Championships of Folklore.

·         The jury reserves the right not to award prizes and change the number of prizes.

·         Awarding will be held during the Closing Ceremony of the festival.

·         Group leaders are required to attend the Festival Closing Ceremony. After closing the festival diplomas and other awards are not available.

To participate in the Festival, please send the following via e-mail:

  1. Fill in the Application form attached
  2. Short CV on the participant (no more than 10 lines)
  3. Send a complete list of participants verified by a group leader according our form (attached)
  4. Send a scanned copy of participants' international passport
  5. Send 2 pictures of your folk group of good quality (the minimum size of photos should be 2 MB in jpeg)

       The deadline for accepting applications is February 15, 2020.
